Edo2020: Ovia South West reaffirms Support for Obaseki

...Insists Obaseki deserves unbroken two terms in office just like his predecessor

Ovia South West Local Government led by its executive chairman, Comrade Destiny Enabulele, has reaffirmed the endorsement of Governor Godwin Obaseki for a second term.

At an enlarged meeting which had in attendance councillors, supervisory councillors, Special Assistants to the Chairman and All Progressives Congress (APC) ward Chairmen, they reiterated support for Governor Godwin Obaseki's second term bid.

Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Destiny said his administration’s endorsement of the governor is based on the legacy of performance and excellent delivery of people-oriented governance.

The council boss added that any other contestant for the office of governor in Edo State for 2020 is a counterfeit, stating categorically that nobody in the state would say they have not felt Obaseki's impact one way or the other.

Enabulele stated that the massive infrastructural development across the three senatorial districts of Edo State and the governor’s praise-worthy disposition in putting the welfare of the state workers in the front burner, are eloquent testimonies to his outstanding performance.

The ward chairmen and councillors maintained that Governor Obaseki deserves unbroken two terms in office just like his predecessor.

KEEP YOUR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN – ONI-OKPAKU URGES RESIDENTS.

The Honorable Commissioner for Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, Dame Omoua Alonge Oni-Okpaku has reiterated the need for residents in the state to keep their surroundings clean always.

Dame Oni-Okpaku made this known in Benin City when she inspected the on-going desilting and excavation of silt and and debris along Uselu New Lagos Road, Benin City.

The Commissioner said desilting of drains and drainages must be done always to allow free flow of flood to the right source.

She urged residents in the area to desist from dumping refuse in unauthorized areas especially when it rains, saying that drainage channels must be cleared regularly to avoid flooding.

She called on the residents to key into Governor Godwin Obaseki’s bid of curbing flood menace to its barest minimum by engaging in proper sanitary practices.

Other areas inspected by the Commissioner include Arousa Street, Ihama Road, Ibiwe, Evbiemwen Street, Akenzua and Stadium Road including water receptacles in Ihama and Boundary Road where desilting work is ongoing.

Edo govt mulls takeover, reconstruction of Benin-Auchi Highway

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has said plans are underway for the state government to take over the reconstruction of the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi highway to put an end to years of the deplorable state of the road.

Obaseki said this after inspecting one of the 40 Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) buses refurbished by the state government, at the Government House in Benin City.

Obaseki said, "We are in conversation with the Federal Government. I met with the Minister for Works last week and he assured me that remedial work would start this week on the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi Road. The minister assured that some funding was available to continue work on the road.”

The Governor, however, noted that the remedial work being done on the road was not good enough, adding, “the state government wants a total rebuild of the road.”

He continued, "We are exploring the possibility of requesting the Federal Government to give us the entire stretch of the road (from Benin to Auchi) so we can raise funding to complete the work on the road.

"The road is a main artery in the state as it connects the three Senatorial Districts of the state; if we do not fix that road, it will have serious consequences on the economy of the state".

He said the state was considering reconstructing the road in phases.
"The road is a priority and we can fix the road in segments; start with the Benin-Ekpoma axis, then the Ekpoma-Okpella axis, then the Okpella -Okene axis", the Governor said.
